MPs have two more weeks to decide on their status

There are two more weeks left during which the members of Parliament who hold a post that is incompatible with the seat of MP must decide which one they will preserve. Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, the head of the Parliament’s Legal Division Ion Creanga said that the legislative body is to adopt soon amendments to the legislation, which will automatically suspend the MPs who will not decide on their status within 30 days from their other jobs. The compatibility or incompatibility of the MPs with their new posts in the legislature is decided by the legal commission for appointments and immunities, which is to be set up soon. Under the Law on the Status of MP, the seat in Parliament is incompatible with the post of President of Moldova, member of Government, ombudsperson and with any other paid position, including a post offered by a foreign state or an international organization, except for teaching and scientific work performed outside the Parliament’s program.
