The resignation of the prosecutor general represents a correct and responsible gesture, said experts invited to the talk show “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel, IPN reports.

“The reform of the prosecution service is an important step, while the new Law on the Prosecution Service brings an element of quality. Corneliu Gurin tendered his resignation in the context of the new law. It was his right to resign. He completed his mission when the new law was passed. We will see what happens next,” said Liberal MP Roman Botan.

MP of the Social-Democratic Platform Igor Vremea considers that Gurin made a reasonable gesture. “We voted to accept his resignation. Corneliu Gurin fulfilled his duties as regards the reform of the prosecution service. The restructuring of the service must start from the upper level. That’s why the resignation of the prosecutor general is welcome,” said the former Communist.

Liberal-Democratic MP Valeriu Giletski said the prosecutor general didn’t have a choice. “In other conditions, Corneliu Gurin could have remained until a new prosecutor general had been named. In the current situation, when protesting people and society exert pressure, he had no other way out,” he stated.

Democratic MP Sergiu Sarbu thinks Corneliu Gurin shouldn’t have left now. “I consider there is a mistaken perception that the solving of all the problems in the system depends on the prosecutor general. Gurin could have further held the post, but we respected his decision,” he said.
