Democratic MP Sergiu Sîrbu was invited to the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office (APO) on January 28. He is investigated for active corruption as he allegedly tried to corrupt a politician. The MP said the accusations are false, while the case is fully political in character, IPN reports.
After the questioning, the MP’s lawyer Adriana Eșanu told the press that she and her client signed own responsibility statements not to reveal details of the investigation. The case was started over active corruption in considerable proportions against a person holding a public post.
Sergiu Sîrbu is accused of trying to corrupt a politician, promising this favors. The MP said he has known this politician for many years, but refused to give his name. “I responsibly declare that this is an absolutely false accusation. Such discussions weren’t held and couldn’t have been held,” he stated, noting there were made a political, irresponsible and misleading statement and a false denouncement.
Last week, Prosecutor General Alexandr Stoianoglo confirmed that former acting prosecutor general Dumitru Robu started a criminal case against Democratic MP Sergiu Sîrbu three months ago. Stoianoglo said that he recently learned about this case and does not intend to go to Parliament to ask for permission to arrest him, as it was rumored.
