Unaffiliated MP Sergiu Sarbu submitted a legislative initiative, proposing that the unvaccinated children should be admitted to education institutions. He considers that the compulsoriness of vaccination is discriminatory, Info-Prim Neo reports. “I think that this serious violation must be immediately removed. The state has all the leverages needed to fight the spreading of infectious diseases, but not by limiting the children’s rights to education,” said the MP. Sergiu Sarbu suggested including a new paragraph where to stipulate that the prophylactic vaccination or non-vaccination of children and students cannot represent an impediment to admission to education institutions. In case of infectious diseases, the education establishments, in coordination with the medical institutions, can take measures to localize and eliminate the risks, without limiting the right to studies. The MP said that the parents often refuse to immunize their children owing to religious beliefs or because they do not trust the quality of vaccines. “Regardless of the parents’ refusal, the limitation of the access to education institutions is serious defiance of the institutional and constitutional norms,” said Sergiu Sarbu. In a news conference earlier, a number of jurists said the law that makes vaccination of children mandatory must be modified as it limits the right to education and to health protection. At the end of January, the Constitutional Court decided that the compulsory vaccination of children does not run counter to the Supreme Law. The judges took such a decision after ombudsman Anatolie Munteanu filed a relevant challenge.
