A lawmaker put forward a legislative initiative providing that the persons who want to become judges must be aged minimum 25. Currently there is no regulation in this respect and the post of judge can be held even by persons who just graduated from faculties of law and the National Institute of Justice, IPN reports.

Bill author Raisa Apolschii, of the Democratic Party, said that when the persons graduate from the university they are about 22. Under the current legislation, they can apply for the post of judge at this age. The lack of requirements concerning age allows persons who are not professionally or morally ready to enter the judicial system.

The MP also said that the early age and the lack of professional abilities needed by a jurist can make the people lose trust in justice. Even when the professional abilities are not questioned when a person is appointed to the post of judge, it is hard to convince the sides involved in a trial that the person who only recently completed the university studies can pass a correct judgment.

The bill is to be debated in Parliament and will take effect if it is passed in two readings.
