MP of the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) Galina Sajin prepares a class action lawsuit against the airlines Air Moldova and Fly One because the two do not fulfill their obligations towards consumers, IPN reports.
“We repeatedly asked the airlines to fulfill their legal obligations and to fully reimburse the price of tickets. We made approaches to the Civil Aviation Authority, but the situation didn’t change at all and the people haven’t yet recovered their money. As the problem cannot be solved amicably, we are preparing a class action in the name of the citizens so as to recover the money and obtain damages. We hope that this way the people will get back their hundreds of euros or even thousands of euros invested in plane tickets,” Galina Sajin stated in a press briefing.
People complained that they cannot recover the money paid for tickets for flights that were cancelled in connection with the travel restrictions. Another problem is related to the vouchers issued by air companies. In exchange for the money paid for cancelled flights, the people are offered to be refunded airport taxes and to be given one-off vouchers. If the passenger has a voucher for €300 and buys a ticket for €100, the rest of the money is not refunded.
Galina Sajin noted that problems were also reported by travel agencies. These accuse the airlines of intentionally selling plane tickets even if they know that the flights cannot be operated. After the tickets are sold, the flight is cancelled one day before the scheduled day.
The MP called on the citizens who want to join in to write to her on her Facebook page or to her email address. “I think it is the case to hold public consultations to which to invite representatives of travel agencies, airlines and the Government for discussing these problems” stated Galina Sajin.
Contacted by mail and on the phone, the two airlines were unavailable for comments as to the accusations made against them.
