MP Gheorghe Brega, head of the Parliamentary Inquiry Commission on the Pharmaceutical Market, has dismissed as “absurd” the accusations made by the director of a pharmaceutical manufacturing company. Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, Gheorghe Brega said that everyone is aware of the disastrous situation on Moldova's pharmaceutical market and when the Commission was created in May, it initiated a number of inspections. Those inspections revealed, among other, that Balkan Pharmaceuticals, the manufacturer in question, registered 167 forms of drugs, whereas other companies had only 1or 2 forms registered. The large number of forms gave rise to suspicions, given that it normally takes 7 to 8 months to obtain one such a form, said Brega. Further inspections revealed a number of irregularities at Balkan Pharmaceuticals, including inadequate production spaces. As concerns the allegation that pressures against Balkan Pharmaceuticals started in 2010, Gheorghe Brega specified that the Inquiry Commission was created only in May this year. The MP went on to add that a conclusion on Balkan Pharmaceuticals will be made available when the probe is over. Silviu Chiru, the general director of Balkan Pharmaceuticals, told a news conference on Friday that MP Gheorghe Brega was behind a host of abusive inspections at the company with the intention of driving it out of business.
