A series of films with a critical engagement toward the current condition of the post-soviet or post-socialist societies will be screened at an exhibition in Chisinau. The exhibition themed “Found Footage” will be open from October 29 to November 7 at the Fine Arts College “Alexandru Plamadeala”. The artists employed film aesthetics and digital technologies to explore and comment upon the transition (gaps, ruptures, or continuity) between the dismantling of socialism and the current neo-liberal system, project coordinator Stefan Rusu explained. The exhibition is the culmination of a workshop that focused on an in-depth exploration of the use of archival material, the aesthetics of appropriation, sampling and detournement, and the transfer of cinematic language to digital forms. The Found Footage workshop included theoretical presentations and film screenings, and provided an opportunity for cross-cultural exchange between artists and students from Moldova, regional artists from Balkan countries, and foreign guests invited to the workshop. The project is implemented by the Centre for Contemporary Art KSAK, Chisinau, with the support of the Amsterdam-based European Cultural Foundation, the U.S. Embassy in Moldova, the Fine Arts College, and the Cinematographers Union of Moldova.
