The MPs of the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) submitted a motion of no confidence against the Government led by Ion Chicu. According to them, the motion was signed by 34 MPs of the PAS, the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform” and the Democratic Party, IPN reports.
“It is a justified motion expected by society as everyone, from young to old, understands that we need another government and need snap elections. We need a Parliament cleared of turncoats, of those who sell themselves for three-four times a year or we will be unable to bring about the change that is long-awaited by the citizens of the Republic of Moldova,” the head of the PAS parliamentary group Igor Grosu stated in a press briefing.
The MP called on Prime Minister Ion Chicu to act wisely and leave himself so as to allow the country to get rid of this corrupt Parliament.
PAS MP Sergiu Litvinenco said now that the motion was tabled, it is to be debated. “There is the theoretical possibility for Premier Chicu to resign alone or together with his Cabinet. The motion will be then meaningless. We are anyway determined to obtain the dissolution of this Parliament so that we have snap legislative elections,” he stated.
The MPs will propose the motion of no confidence in the December 16 sitting of Parliament and will ask to examine it within the legal time limit.
Under the Parliament’s Regulations, the motion of no confidence represents withdrawal of the support given to the Government on its investiture. It is debated on the first day of the plenary sitting of the next week after the day of its submission and is adopted by a majority of votes of MPs. If the motion is rejected, the MPs who signed it are unable to propose another motion on the same reason during the same session. If it is carried, the Prime Minister tenders the Government’s resignation to the President of the Republic of Moldova within three days.
