Veronica Ciobanu, the mother of the child who allegedly drowned at the Sulina camp in Romania last summer, believes that in reality her son was trafficked. In a news conference on March 25, the woman accused the Ministry of Youth and Sport of the disappearance of her son, Info-Prim Neo reports. The child’s mother said that it is a long time since the tragedy happened, but she knows no details of the case. According to her, in Moldova they consider that the boy drowned, while in Romania he was reported missing as the body has not been found yet. The woman said that the Ministry of Youth and Sport provided her with no explanations, while the Prosecutor’s Office of Moldova did not even ask for the proofs collected by their Romanian colleagues. Veronica Ciobanu said the camp where her son was resting was like a brothel. She said that she talked with her son over the phone one day before the tragedy and he told her that he wanted to return home as there were elder boys in his room who smoked, drank alcohol and slept with girls. A legal case was opened on this case in Moldova, over negligence at work, said deputy head of the National Independent Center for Investigations and Human Rights Defense Tudor Ciorap, who is the woman’s lawyer. He informed that the persons involved in this case are no longer investigated. The lawyer said the investigations in Romania continue and the authorities there do not consider that the boy drowned. Tudor Ciorap said they filed an application to court, asking that the boy be declared dead so that they could demand that those who are to blame for his death be held accountable. The woman said she was ready to seek justice from European Court of Human Rights. The 14-year-old boy disappeared last July when he was at the Romanian camp Sulina. The boy’s mother has one more child aged 4. .
