Mother and 3-year-old killed in cigarette fire

A three-year-old boy and his mother, aged 32, died in a fire last night, February 22, in Chisinau's Ciocana district. Dorina Sochirca, press officer of Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, told Info-Prim Neo the fire started in an apartment on Mircea cel Batrin Street around 10.30 PM. The woman must have fell asleep with a burning cigarette. She and her son died asphyxiated. According to unofficial reports, the woman may have been drunk. On the same day, elsewhere in Moldova, fires killed a 42-year-old man in Cernoleuca village, Donduseni district, and an 83-year-old woman in Susleni, Orhei district.
