In most of the nursery schools of Chisinau municipality, the groups are overcrowded. Even so, there are no children older than three who do not attend nurseries in Chisinau, the head of the General Division of Education, Youth and Sport Tatiana Nagnibeda-Tverdohleb said in the March 17 meeting of the Chisinau Municipal Council. The official was questioned at the request of the Socialist councilors, who asked for information about the situation in the municipal education institutions, IPN reports.
Tatiana Nagnibeda-Tverdohleb stated that under the regulations, the groups for children aged between two and three must include at most 20 children. The groups for elder children should consist of 25 to 30 children. However, in most of the nurseries the groups include up to 35 children.
For his part, the leader of the Socialist group Ion Ceban said many parents complain that the conditions in nurseries are bad and they have to pay extra taxes. Many nurseries are in a bad state of repair and these are not renovated even if the municipality allocates money for the purpose. An electronic register should be created to specify the number of places available at nursery schools and the number of order of the parents who want their children to be admitted to nursery.
As to the additional taxes, the Division’s head said in many nurseries the parents found voluntary associations and the authorities cannot ban them from doing this. Since 2007, no nursery has been built in the municipality of Chisinau, but repair works were performed in may preschool education institutions.
According to the Division’s data, since 2008 there have been reopened 11 nurseries whose buildings were earlier used as schools or were leased out to business entities. About 250 new groups have been opened in the period.
