Most of the holders of patents, which were banned from July 1, 2023, had to go abroad to earn their living and markets remained deserted, said representatives of former patentees from different districts, who noted that the new algorithm is nonfunctional and harmful. According to them, the government’s intention was to destroy small and medium-sized businesses, to close markets in favor of large economic agents.

In a news conference at IPN, Ruslan Verbitski, the representative of patent holders from Chisinau, said that more than half of the over 5,000 patentees, i.e. 5,000 families, went to work abroad and 90% of those who remained and tried to register an individual enterprise didn’t start a business till the end, stopping only at the stage of signing an activity contract with markets.

“Patentees who earned their daily bread to survive after retirement cannot handle cash registers as these require special training. But a legal way to return the goods hasn’t been identified. What do we have at the moment? The markets are deserted, while the authorities made reforms for the sake of reform on the money of the European Union, which they spent without any real result for the country’s economy,” stated Ruslan Verbitski.

Olga Chapki, the representative of patentees from Stefan Voda district, called on the diplomatic missions accredited to Moldova and on the ombudsman to help them.

“The tears of needy, ordinary people whom you forced to engage in self-employment, whom you fool and milk – as if we are sheep in the pen only for milking – will return to you. You came to power, but will leave sooner or later and the tears and curses of ordinary people will get you,” stated Eleonora Țurcanu-Herghelegiu, the representative of patent holders from Causeni district.
