Most of the citizens of the Republic of Moldova intend to celebrate the traditional events of the season – Martsihsor on March 1 and International Women's Day on March 8, shows the iData Barometer presented on Wednesday.

According to the results of the survey, 70% of the Moldovans said they will wear a martsishor on their chests, 23% said they do not know, and 7% said they might wear a martsishor.

"There are particular geographical differences. We can highlight that, especially in Balti and Gagauzia, they will wear martsishors less. Anyway, at least half of the citizens will actively mark this holiday,"  Mihai Bologan, director of the sociological company Data Inteligente, stated in a news conference hosted by IPN.

The survey also reveals that the Moldovans are willing to allocate between 100 and 499 lei for gifts and other holiday expenses. People in Chisinau plan to spend the most, 2,300 lei on average, while in the southern region the average amount is about 1,500 lei.

"Less is spent in the south, especially in Gagauzia. What I found interesting is that depending on age, the younger the respondents are, the more they spend on these holidays. Respectively, this is very relevant to the 18-29 year old segment, who will spend 3,600 lei on average for all these holidays," said the iData director.

The survey was conducted during February 13-24 and covered a sample of 1,005 people from 315 localities. The maximum sampling error is ±3%.
