More women will be employed in the patrolling police bodies and employees’ salaries will be raised by about 30%. The objectives were made public by the chief of the General Police Inspectorate Ion Bodrug, IPN reports.

According to Ion Bodrug, based on the reforms implemented by the General Police Inspectorate, increasing the number of women employed in the patrolling police is one of the major goals pursued during the last few months.

Ion Bodrug told a news conference that there are over 1,000 vacancies in the police bodies, mainly in Cahul, Causeni, and Falesti. In the last national opinion poll commissioned by the Ministry of the Interior, the respondents said the low pays are the main problem encountered by the police.

The women represent 8.6% of the police employees. The General Police Inspectorate includes over 9,000 posts, 14% of them being vacant.
