The number of cases of viral infections has slightly decreased compared with the previous weeks, but the risk of infection is high in this period of the year, Petru Scoferta, the head of the viral and respiratory infections laboratory of the National Scientific-Practical Center of Preventive Medicine, told Info-Prim Neo. No cases of flu have been yet recorded. But there were detected viruses that cause non-influenza infections. As most of the viral infections are transmitted by air, Petru Scoferta recommends the sick persons to avoid crowded places, cover the mouth with a handkerchief when coughing and wear a protection mask when coming into contact with other persons. According to Petru Scoferta, children are most at risk of becoming infected. The symptoms of viral infections include nasal secretions, coughs, sneezes, sometimes fever and headaches. In order to avoid infections, doctors recommend eating products that are rich in vitamin C (lemon, black and red currant) and phytoncide products (garlic and onion), and leading a healthy lifestyle, without cigarettes and alcohol. About 3,100 new cases of non-influenza infections were recorded in the 48th week of this year. 205 persons have been hospitalized.
