The government is borrowing €143.5 million from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (BERD) to optimize the centralized heat supply system. According to the project, 2,510 individual thermal points will be installed and horizontal distribution of heat will be implemented in 1,665 residential blocks, so that consumers can regulate their own heat and (de)connect themselves individually from the grid, IPN reports.
Energy losses will be reduced by 30% and the quality of district heating services will improve, say the signatories of the agreement - Energy Minister Victor Parlicov and BERD Associate Director Octavian Cus.
The loan is part of a broad project to modernize Moldova's energy infrastructure. The total project budget exceeds €326 million.
Representatives of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development said that the project is important for Moldova's green transition and expressed confidence that it will have a positive and significant impact on the environment and the country's economy.
