The number of cases of mushroom poisoning has increased. The National Public Health Center informed that 10 persons from the municipalities of Chisinau and Balit and from Telenesti, Orhei, and Hancesti districts got poisoned after eating mushrooms prepared at home during October 5-18, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The Center warns the population that the rapidity by which the cases of mushroom poisoning are detected can save lives. If the symptoms appear more rapidly, the poisoning is more serious. The children are a vulnerable group that is exposed to an increased risk of poisoning.
The people are urged not to buy mushrooms from unknown persons and from unauthorized places, and not to pick up mushrooms from town parks or from around waste dumps as they contain toxic substances.
Canning mushrooms in domestic conditions is not recommended. The mushrooms can contain spores of the pathogen agent of botulism, which produces toxins in cans, causing serious poisoning. When the mushrooms are boiled for five hours, these spores are not destroyed.
The symptoms of mushroom poisoning include stomachache, vomiting and diarrhea. Afterward, there appear spasms and states of dizziness. The almost fatal symptoms are difficult respiration, irregular pulse, blurred vision and temperatures by 3-4 degrees higher.
