More Moldovans choose to have mobile Internet

The number of subscribers to mobile Internet access services (data card USB modems) rose by 30.7% from last yearend to 233,300, while the number of those who chose fixed Internet increased by 7.7% to 449,400, show data of the National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communication and Information Technology (ANRCETI), IPN reports.

The total volume of mobile Internet traffic grew by 29.1% compared with the first nine months of last year to 14.7 million GB. The average monthly traffic generated by a subscriber to dedicated mobile Internet was 8.7 GB.

The data presented by the 52 providers of fixed Internet access services show that the connections based on fiber optic technologies increased by 13.8% to 215,500. According to the tariff plans chosen by the subscribers, 42% of them benefit from Internet access speeds varying between 2 and 10 Mbps. 1.2% of the subscribers chose speed higher than 100 Mbps, while 13.4% - speed lower than 2 Mbps.

The revenues of the three providers of mobile networks rose by 17.5% to about 190.3 million lei. The sales of the 52 providers of data transmission and Fixed Internet services increased by over 20.7% to about 703.2 million lei.

In the period, the three mobile Internet access service providers had the following market shares by turnover: SA “Orange Moldova” – 47%, SA “Moldcell” – 25.3%, while SA “Moldtelecom” – 27.7%. On the fixed Internet access services market, SA “Moldtelecom” had a share of 71.3%, SRL “Starnet” of 15.4%, while SA “Orange Moldova” of 3%.
