Starting September 1, children in schools and kindergartens will eat more fruits and vegetables according to updated menus. The Ministry of Health says in a press release that it has issued a set of healthy diet and phisical activity guidelines for the education institutions, and starting from the upcoming academic year all schools and kindergartens must conform, IPN reports.

The new menus come in two versions, adapted for the warm season and the cold season. Both include more fruits and vegetables, integral bread, and also filtered or bottled water as available. According to the new menus, fish must be served at least twice a week. There are also special-diet foods for the children with digestive conditions.

At the same time, the Ministry removed products containing food additives, including processed meat products, as well as foods cooked in fat. Also, the intake of bread and pasta products was reduced.
