The number of teams that will deal with emergency calls on the night of January 1 was increased from 50 to 57, said the director of the National Emergency Medicine Center Gheorghe Ciobanu, quoted by IPN.

According to Gheorghe Ciobanu, the number of calls usually decreases significantly from 10pm until midnight, but the situation changes during the first hours of the New Year. In most of the cases, the patients are persons with burns sustained when exploding petards and with injuries suffered after abusing alcohol. There are also cases of carbon monoxide poisoning and falls from height.

Excessive eating is another reason for concern as it can lead to gastric disorders. Doctors call on the parents to be attentive to what the children eat during holidays and to supervise them permanently so as to avoid unpleasant situations.

The doctors of the National Emergency Medicine Center deal daily with about 750 calls. During the holidays, the number of calls rises to 850.
