The injuries sustained in road accidents are the leading cause of death among persons aged between 5 and 29. The statistics of the traffic police show that 544 accidents involving minors happened on the national roads last year. They caused the death of 38 children and injured another 579, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the Ministry of the Interior. According to the Ministry, 89 traffic accidents last year occurred through the fault of children of preschool age. They resulted in four deaths and 88 children injured. The students caused 71 accidents. One child died and 53 were injured in the 49 accidents involving children that happened so far this year. The Ministry of the Interior plans to sign cooperation agreements with all the relevant players by involving the public transport, healthcare, education and law enforcement institutions in implementing, in partnership, measures aimed at preventing road accidents and in carrying out awareness raising campaigns. The heads of the Ministry’s divisions are considering establishing sustainable partnerships with representatives of civil society and cooperation relations with public authorities so as to remedy the situation.
