A larger number of sexually transmitted diseases like syphilis, herpes virus infections and gonorrhea was recorded among children last year. There were 74 cases of syphilis, 29 cases of gonorrhea and 229 cases of trichomoniasis per 100,000 children aged between 15 and 17, Info-Prim Neo has learned from the National Bureau of Statistics.. The HIV virus was detected last year in 11 children younger than 17, by three cases more than in 2009. Two HIV-infected children developed AIDS. The incidence of tuberculosis was 25 new cases per 100,000 children under 17. The risk of becoming infected with tuberculosis is higher among children aged 5-14. Practically every fourth new case of tuberculosis was in children of this age bracket. A number of 476 children died under the age of one, mainly because of congenital malformations, deformations and chromosomal anomalies, diseases of the respiratory apparatus, poisoning and traumas. There were also recorded 1,617 cases of acute intestinal infection, 2,172 cases of enterobiosis, and 505 cases of ascaridosis per 100,000 children. The number of cases of bacterial dysentery, scarlatine, trichocephalosis and viral hepatitis decreased.
