The Cabinet instituted the Council for the Promotion of Investment Projects of National Importance by a decision on April 27, IPN reports.

Prime Minister Pavel Filip was designated as chairman of the Council, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Octavian Calmac as deputy chairman, while the director of the Moldova Investment Attraction and Export Promotion Organization (MIEPO) Dona Scola as secretary. Among the Council members are the ministers of finance, justice, interior, agriculture and food industry, transport and road infrastructure, and of regional development and the heads of the State Tax Service, the Customs Service, the Cadaster Agency and the Migration and Asylum Bureau of the Ministry of the Interior.

The Council’s task is to make sure the strategic investment projects are implemented as planned.

Octavian Calmac said it’s not a secret that the investors face different problems, especially at the project initiation stage. They encounter problems in obtaining information, methodological support and different permits and certificates necessary for doing business. Conflict situations that delay the implementation of projects can yet appear. The investment risks increase, affecting Moldova’s image as an attractive destination for foreign direct investment.

According to the Ministry of Economy, the Council’s high-level composition will enable the public authorities to better cooperate and to remove the faced barriers without delay. A permanent dialog will be established between the investors and the Government, which will have a beneficial impact on the implementation and results of the projects.
