More and more Moldovan require Romanian citizenship

The number of Moldovan that forwarded request for the recovering the Romanian citizenship significantly increased in the past few weeks, and in less than a month reached the number of 80 thousand persons. The Romanian Embassy in the Republic of Moldova reminds that the Law for Romanian citizenship does not specify an exact recovery date. There is also no deadline for submitting these requests. The Romanian diplomatic mission also announced it is not responsible for the recovery of Romanian citizenship campaign through the so-called template requests, sold by different intermediaries. In a press release, the mission informs that the sole persons capable of offering correct information regarding the legal procedure of Romanian citizenship recovery are the employees of the consular section of the Romanian Embassy in the Republic of Moldova, that can be reached during working days between 10:00 and 13:00, at the headquarters from Vlaicu Parcalab Street no. 39 or at telephone number 23.75.80. According to the Embassy, the Romanian citizenship recovery request can be written by the interviewee, even in free form, with specification of complete personal information, including for the under-aged children, and must be sent to the consular section in a recommended letter, accompanied by a stamped envelope with the exact return address of the applicant. With 6 months before the presentation due, the applicant will be informed in written form with the date and time at which the documents have to be presented at the consular section, as well as what documents are required. The press release also specifies that the public will be officially informed through the local mass-media of any changes of the legal procedures regarding the Romanian citizenship recovery process, if any. Requested by the press to comment the high number of Moldovan citizen that want to recover their Romanian citizenship, prime-minister Vasile Tarlev declared that the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova allows its citizens to have double citizenship, and the Moldovan use this right for easy circulation to countries with economical or personal interests. Tarlev also mentioned that as a prime-minister and a citizen, he will never request citizenship from another country “because of patriotic considerations”. The Premier also added that the civil servants are also required to have only the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova.
