More Accident Blackspot traffic signs that warn a road section of at most 1 km on which at least five serious road accidents occurred over a period of five years will be set up on the national roads. National Patrolling Inspectorate chief Marin Maxian has told IPN that the patrol inspectors, in concert with specialists of the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure, are assessing the roads and will then present generalized information. Preliminary estimates show the number of such signs will rise from 47 to over 60.

According to Marin Maxian, the adjustment of speed on these road sections that include many turns is a priority. An Accident Blackspot sign will be placed on the road that connects the villages Chetrosu and Todirești of Anenii Noi district. One of the most serious road accidents that happened on this section was that of January 15, 2018, when five persons, one of whom a child aged one year and a half, died in a crash between two cars.

Such signs will be now set up also inside localities, like in the municipality of Balti and Vulcănești town that are crossed by national roads. Marin Maxian said the drivers, when they see the given signs, should realize that a high-risk road section follows and they should be thus very careful.

According to the National Patrolling Inspectorate, 308 road accidents occurred in Moldova during the first two months of this year, a decrease of slightly over 8% compared with the corresponding period last year. These claimed 34 lives, injuring another 361. Of the total number of traffic accidents, 161 happened in the municipality of Chisinau and eight persons died in these.
