The suspended chief prosecutor of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office (APO) Viorel Morari was summoned to appear at the prosecution body on January 19.
In a news conference on January 6, Viorel Morari said he was summoned for January 14. Contacted by IPN for details, he said that after the conference, prosecutor Renata Anici contacted the lawyer and specified that he must show up on January 19, 2pm. He noted he was summoned in connection with the case of the Borș brothers (Vento).
“The suspended chief of the APO is awaited at the Prosecutor General’s Office next week to be charged with a number of offenses committed while heading the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office,” PGO spokeswoman Maria Vieru has told IPN.
Viorel Morari was arrested in January 2020 on charges of abuse of power, falsification of public documents and interference in prosecution. The case was sent to court one month later. Also then, the PGO announced that it started one more case against Morari, over unjust enrichment and laundering of considerable amounts of money by using his position.
Viorel Morari pleads not guilty. He is now under judicial control.
