The foundation stone of the monument to the famous Russian bard Vladimir Vysotsky will be laid in the central square of Balti on July 2. On this occasion, the artist’s son Nikita Vysotsky and the well-known Russian singer Grigori Leps will pay visits to Moldova’s northern capital. The information was confirmed for IPN by deputy mayor of Balti municipality Alexandr Usatyi.

“Indeed, the foundation stone will be laid on July 2. We are now preparing the documents needed for putting up the monument. On June 27, the Municipal Council is to take a decision over the placement of the monument. It is known that the concert of the famed singer Grigori Leps will take place in the evening of July 2. He will come to Balti especially on this occasion. We are glad that the poet’s son Nikita Vysotsky also comes to Balti,” said the deputy mayor.

According to him, it’s not yet clear if it will be a solo concert or Leps will be accompanied by colleagues. “It is yet certain that this will be a real holiday for the residents of Balti. The money for setting up the monument and holding the concert was donated by businessman Renato Usatyi, who now lives in Moscow,” stated the deputy mayor.

Renato Usatyi told IPN’s correspondent over the phone that he studied and lived in Balti for several years. “This town means a lot to me. The times now are not easy and I decided to offer the town’s inhabitants a holiday as life consists not only of problems and difficulties, but also of joys and such holidays. Why Vysotsky? Because he is a symbol of the epoch, who changed the country and all of us. He became a legend while alive. The people in Moldova loved him and listened to his songs. The celebration will end with a performance by Grigori Leps who, I’m sure, will impress all the residents of Balti,” he said.

He also said that he will personally take part in the laying of the foundation stone. “I decided to come and help place the monument to the great bard namely because I have listened to his songs from childhood. They are always together with me and help me in difficult times. Vladimir Vysotsky’s son Nikita will also come to Balti and will take part in the event. I think he will be very glad to see the respect and care enjoyed by his father in Moldova. Besides, an old friend of his, singer Slava, will come to Balti too,” said the businessman.
