Monument to Komsomolists will be moved to Moldexpo

The Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) Thursday approved the decision to hold a tender contest to select the model of the sculptural composition Grigore Vieru. The monument will be erected on the Boulevard that bears the poet's name, Info-Prim Neo reports. Valery Pavlov, the leader of the Communist faction in the Council, said the Communist councilors do not agree with such a decision as it allows relocating the monument to Komsomolists. A group of young people representing the Social Action submitted today a list of 2,500 signatures against the demolition of the monument to the CMC. Unaffiliated councilor Oleg Cerni said the monument will not be demolished, but moved to Moldexpo. “The monument to Lenin is located there. If you go to lay flowers, you will find the monument to Komsomolists nearby,” Cernei told the group of young persons. Valery Pavlov replied that the Communist councilors will vote against the decision. “I agree that Grigore Vieru was a great person, but the monument to him should not be built in the place of the monument to Komsomolists,” he said. The decision was adopted by the vote of the councilors of the other factions. A sum of 150,000 lei will be allocated for the tender contest.
