The Republic of Moldova is very important to the European Union and we do not want it to get lost in the thicket of transition from communism to democracy, which, we know, is very hard, said MEP Monica Macovei, who heads the delegation to the EU-Moldova Parliamentary Cooperation Committee, IPN reports.

“We want democracy and welfare to be established in Moldova irreversibly. The installation of a pro-European government is a success and I congratulate all the political players who contributed,” the MEP said in a sitting of the European Parliament.

Monica Macovei also said that the negotiations on the Association Agreement with the EU are close to an end and the accord is to be initialed at the Eastern Partnership Summit of Vilnius this November. “I call on the European Commission to make a statement in this respect at the June 25, 2013 meeting of the Cooperation Council in Luxemburg,” stated the MEP.

At the end of June, the European Commission will publish the report on the implementation of the last phase of the Visa Liberalization Plan of Action. Monica Macovei said that if this report is positive, she will request the Council to announce the elimination of the visas at the Vilnius Summit.
