MEP Monica Macovei by a public statement congratulated all the pro-European politicians of Moldova and thanked the country’s people for working and choosing democracy and freedom. The signing of the Association Agreement with the EU means political protection on the part of the European Union, economic advantages and, above all, a guarantee for democracy and freedom for all the Moldovan people, said the MEP, quoted by IPN.
“In 2008, nobody spoke about Moldova in the European Parliament and nobody really though about the rapprochement between Moldova and the EU. However, since 2009, when the pro-European forces came to power and the Communists moved to the opposition, everything changed. Things do not change overnight. A lot of work must be done in continuation. Responsibility and wisdom is required as there are yet more difficult moments. The European Union supports the implementation of the accord’s provisions,” stated Monica Macovei.
She added that another dream may soon come true, the one that Moldova is ready to become an accession candidate of the EU.
