Monica Babuc was elected acting president of the Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM) in the party’s National Politicla Council, IPN reports, quoting a press release of the party.

Monica Babuc noted that the Democratic Party plays an important role in the political life of the Republic of Moldova. “The fact that the Democratic Party has a rich history and competent people means that we have the chance to play an important role in Moldovan politics,” she stated.

According to Monica Babuc, this can be achieved by defining the center-left place of European Social-Democratic origin so as to solve the social problems of the people and also by establishing very important partnerships with parties of the same political family in the region.

The caretaker president noted PDM can occupy the most honorable center-right place to represent authentic European social-democracy in the country. The party has competent, qualified and responsible people and a powerful local network that needs to be maintained and developed.

Monica Babuc served as Minister of Culture (2013-2017), Minister of Education, Culture and Research (2017-2019), Deputy Speaker of Parliament (2019-2020), MP and vice president of PDM.

The National Political Council also decided to supplement the composition of the party’s Executive Bureau with three new members from the northern, central and southern regions of the country, namely: Ghenadie Muntean, (North), Ion Sula, (Center) and Nicolae Prițcan, (South).

The former president of PDM Pavel Filip withdrew from the party’s administration half a month ago.
