Money shortage affects preparations for future heating season

Because of the lack of money, “Apa-Canal Chisinau” JSC (ACC) and the companies administrating the housing sector in Chisinau fell behind the timetable for the preparation of the forthcoming heating season. Constantin Becciev, Director-General of ACC, told the City Hall meeting on Monday, July 16, that because of the company’s financial situation, the works related to the heating season are only at the beginning. However, Becciev hopes that ACC will manage to perform the necessary volume of works until October. Deputy Head of the Housing General Department Petru Gontea said that the municipal services repaired 1139 stairs and 1160 elevators in the apartment blocks so far. Also, capital repairs were performed in 37 blocks, out of those 52 included in the timetable. At present, it is planned to repair the roofs of 450 apartment blocks. Head of the Department for Education, Youth and Sports Tatiana Nagnibeda-Tverdohleb pointed out that in all the pre-higher and pre-school education institutions of the municipality of Chisinau repairs are under way. Of 63 institutions included in the schedule, the roofs of 42 schools had been repaired, in other 13 schools the works are still being carried out, and in 8 schools the works are to begin. According to her, all the works will be finished by August 22. Iurie Bucinschi, Head of the Health Department said that in 15 out of 18 medical establishments in the municipality, heat, water supply and sewerage systems are already prepared for the cold season. In this respect, Mayor General Dorin Chirtoaca requested to undertake all the necessary actions to finish the works on preparing the city for the cold season 2007-2008, mentioning about the necessity of launching a municipal programme on the conservation of thermal energy. Also, Chirtoaca said that the discussions on the preparations for the cold season will continue at the sessions of the Chisinau Municipal Council.
