A new reason for dispute between the MPs of the PAS and the PSRM appeared after the date of snap parliamentary elections was announced. The Socialists say that when the Government is acting and the Parliament is dissolved, the money needed for holding elections cannot be allocated. For their part, the MPs of the Party of Action and Solidarity note that this is a new reason invented by the PSRM to delay the snap elections, IPN reports.

According to the Socialist MPs, the 2021 state budget does not include funds for organizing snap elections. From legal viewpoint, the acting Government and the dissolved Parliament cannot amend the state budget law.

“The Government is an outgoing one, while the Parliament was dissolved. Who will amend the budget to allocate money for elections? The acting Government cannot take such decisions. The Government can identify money by redistributing the allocations, but cannot amend the budget. This is not our invention. There is a law and it should be obeyed,” Socialist MP Grigore Novac stated in the talk show “Red Button” on the public TV channel Moldova 1.

The PAS MPs said the lack of money for holding the elections is an artificial problem as funds can be identified by reducing other unessential costs.

“We only brought the political class before the people’s judgment. This sum of 120 million lei does not represent a problem. The Government is obliged to find money. The money can be allocated from the Reserve Fund. The sum is not so large. We can take the 50 million lei planned for repair works at the State Tax Service and can take money from the Chisinau Arena. The elections are an issue of national importance,” said PAS MP Virgil Pîslariuc.

According to the Central Election Commission, 120 million lei is needed for holding snap parliamentary elections. The elections were set for July 11.
