The MPs observed a moment of silence in memory of writer Vladimir Beșleagă, who served as a member of Moldova’s first Parliament, IPN reports.

"The previous days, we learned with pain about the death of writer Vladimir Beșleagă – the patriarch of our literature, a man who, both in his career and in life, showed courage, generosity and simplicity. His books were and will remain a reference point in the formation of the young generations and a source of inspiration for Moldovans," said Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu.

Vladimir Beșleagă will be buried on Friday, February 28, which is a day of national mourning. In all localities in the country, as well as in the diplomatic and consular missions of the Republic of Moldova abroad, the state flag of the Republic of Moldova will be flown at half-mast.

Vladimir Beșleagă was born on July 25, 1931 in Mălăiești village of Grigoriopol district. The writer passed away on February 25, at the age of 93.
