The national communications operator SA Moldtelecom, which provides mobile phone services under the trademark Unite, Friday ran a successful test on its third-generation (3G) mobile communications network and can now provide 3G services, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communique from the company. During a presentation attended by representatives of the National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology, there were tested the main 3G services: video call, mobile TV and broadband Internet access. Vitalie Iurcu, director general of SA Moldtelecom, said the test showed the services are of a high quality, especially the mobile Internet. He stressed that the company's 3 G network will be launched in the first quarter of the next year. Iurcu also said that after the network is launched, the subscribers of Unite, no matter what package they use, will benefit from three new services: video call, mobile TV and mobile Internet. At the initial stage, the services will be available only in the municipalities of Balti and Chisinau. SA Moldtelecom obtained a license to provide public 3G services and networks under the IMT 2000 system, according to the UMTS (W-CDMA) standards, in December last year. The license is valid for 15 years and can be renewed for a similar period.
