“Moldtelecom” launched “Unite” mobile communication service

On Thursday, March 1, the national fixed telephony operator, “Moldtelecom” Company launched the “Unite” mobile communications service, in CDMA 2000 standard, in 450 MHz frequency band. “Moldtelecom” mobile telephony allows transmitting voice and data, by using last generation technologies. The company’s sales vice director, Dorian Postevca, told treporters that investments in the equipment needed for launching the service constituted about MDL 400 mln. “It is a rather important sum which allowed high IT technology enter Moldova”, Postevca mentioned. He assured that mobile telephony prices, charged by “Moldotelecom” are reasonable and represent the most convenient offer on the mobile communications market in Moldova. “Moldtelecom” launched several offers, including special telephones for this kind of telephony at prices of 700 and 1000 lei, which can be purchased at the “Unite” representations in the entire republic and specialised stores (initially in Chisinau). Postevca mentioned about another special offer – bonuses and extra minutes for persons who will subscribe the service in the launching period. “Unite” also includes an internet access offer, based on the new technology – “EV-DO”, allowing high-speed access, up to 2.4 Mb/sec. Initially, access to internet is available only in Chisinau, but in the near future it will cover the entire country. The service offers a much higher access speed than that provided by other mobile telephony companies in Moldova”, Postevca added. In short time, “Unite” will provide roaming services in Russia and Romania, places with the largest demand for such services. Roaming will be offered in the same standard, by similar operators. Postevca says that, in a certain period, roaming services will be provided in the majority of the world’s countries. For the beginning they will be available in CDMA standard, later – in other standards. “Unite” service is contracted without the connection fee. The user is charged per second, starting the first second. The unconsumed time will be transferred to the following month. Territorial coverage of the new service is 90%, with 40 outlets in the entire republic. The cheapest monthly subscription costs 70 lei for 20 minutes of local calls and 10 local SMS included. Prices for calls within the “Unite” and “Modtelecom” networks are set at 2 lei/minute, calls to other international operators – 3 lei/minute. Local SMS cost 0.75 lei per message, international SMS – 1.5 lei, Internet traffic – 2 lei/Mb. “Unite” service has a range of other offers: Amigo, Activo, Benefit, Connect, offers for families, corporative offers and others.
