Marin Adam was appointed as the new director of Moldova’s Water Agency on February 24. A relevant Government decision was approved on February 16, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The first task of the new director came from Prime Minister Vlad Filat. He asked him to make an analysis of the flow capacity on the Prut and Nistru Rivers following the thaw.
Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, the Agency’s vice director Mihai Penkov said that measures have been taken to prevent risks caused by the larger volume of water in the rivers.
“A decision was taken to increase the volume of water discharged from the Costesti-Stanca reservoir. The first time the volume was raised by 10 cubic meters, while in a week by another 10 cubic meters per second. The volume is now by 28 cubic meters per second larger. Within two weeks, the lake was emptied by a meter,” said Mihai Penkov.
Moldova’s Water Agency is managed by the Ministry of the Environment. Until last April, it was headed by Ion Lupu, who was named head of “Moldsilva” Agency.
