The national men’s team of Moldova beat the squad of Serbia 3-1 in the ninth round of the World Chess Olympiad. The women’s team lost to Latvia. Master Paula-Alexandra Gatu made a draw, IPN reports.
In the tenth round, the men’s team plays the Italian squad, while the women’s team competes against the chess players of Egypt. In the rounds played so far, the men’s team had six wins and a draw and suffered two defeats, while the women’s team clinched five victories and suffered four defeats.
The 42nd World Chess Olympiad is held in Azerbaijan’s Baku on September 1 – 14. The Open section involves 180 countries, while the Women section - 140 countries. The competition brought together over 1,580 players.
