President Nicolae Timofti showed political courage in the speech he gave at the Summit of CIS Heads of State in Minks, in which he accused Russia of closing the market for Moldovan products for the reason that Moldova signed the Association Agreement with the EU. Such statements were made in the program “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel, IPN reports.
Political analyst Roman Mihaes said the speech of the Moldovan President annoyed Russia’s President Vladimir Putin, who ultimately made an encouraging reply for our country. “Putin said he is not against Moldova coming closer to the EU, but he is concerned about the impact that this step could have on Russia as Moldova’s partner. This reply is in Moldova’s favor. First, it was Alexandr Lukashenko who said that he is not against Moldova’s integration into the EU. Then Putin made his statement. It is Timofti’s merit as he provoked the Russian head of state to make such a statement in our favor,” stated Mihaes.
President of the Women’s Political Club “50/50” Ecaterina Mardarovici also considers that Nicolae Timofti’s gesture was full of courage. According to her, in several years we will thank Russia for closing the market as it made us to orient to the European market and to look for other export markets. Also, the Moldovan producers were put in the situation to improve the quality of their products.
According to Russian press reports, the exchange of replies between Putin and Timofti was incendiary, while the discussions between the two continued in the corridors.
