Pasha Parfeni will represent the Republic of Moldova at the 67th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 in Liverpool, the UK, with the song “Soarele și Luna” (The Sun and the Moon”), IPN reports.

The struggle in the national final was between Pasha Parfeni, who obtained a total of 24 points, the band SunStroke Project, with 18 points, and Aliona Moon, who ranked third with 17 points. The winner of the national selection is the favorite of the combined vote of the public and the jury.

Singer Pasha Parfeni took part in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2012 in Baku with the song “Lăutar” “Fiddler”. In the Grand Final in the Azeri capital, he ranked 11th out of 26 competitors.

Owing to the war waged by Russia on Ukraine, the UK will stage the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 in the name of Ukraine, which last year won the competition with the song “Stefania”, performed by the band “Kalush Orchestra”. The two semifinals will be broadcast live on May 9 and 11, while the Grand Final will take place on May 13. Moldova will compete in the first semifinal.

The Republic of Moldova has taken part in the Eurovision Song Contest since 2005. The best result was the third place won in 2017 by SunStroke Project, with “Hey, Mamma!”. Last year Moldova was represented by the band “Zdob și Zdub” and the Advahov Brothers’ Orchestra with the song “Trenulețul” (“Little Train”), which ranked seventh.
