Moldova has poor chances to survive as a European state if it does not implement the project called the Interstate Union Romania –Moldova, vice president of the National Liberal Party (PNL) Anatol Taranu told a news conference on Tuesday, March 13. As Taranu states, “this project can be easier carried out by signing, between Romania and Moldova, an interstate treaty on fraternity and privileged partnership, which would have the aim to integrate the two Romanian states into EU”. “It is a Europeanization project intended to make use of EU resources as reasonable as possible, with a view to overcoming Moldova’s lag”, the cited source reports. In PNL’s view, the concept of the Interstate Union could include the formation in stages of the bodies coordinating the policies of this structure, as a Parliamentary Assembly, composed of thirty MPs from each state, which will come together to periodical sessions in Bucharest and Chisinau and which will deal with harmonisation and homogenisation of Moldova’s legislation. At the same time, the interstate executive Commission, headquartered in Iasi and made up of an equal number of representatives of the Governments in Bucharest and Chisinau, could succeed in implementing the Joint Budget, policies on Moldova’s EU membership, obtaining and carrying out a mini-plan Marshall to settle the Transnistrian dispute and rehabilitate the social-economic situation in the post-conflict period of Moldova etc. Taranu mentioned that the Interstate Union is no imperilling Moldova’s sovereignty. It is not a project intended to liquidate Moldova as a state, but one designed to consolidate the national state, under the formula of a second Romanian state. MP Taranu said that PNL will submit a legislative initiative in this respect, but thinks it will not be accepted by a large number of MPs. Also, the authors will request the Embassy of Romania to Chisinau to forward the document to Bucharest.
