The victories against San Marino (3-0) and Montenegro (5-2) pushed Moldova’s national team to the 96th place in the world rankings for October released by the FIFA on October 17. Moldova climbed 33 spots, this being the most spectacular jump among the 209 countries included in the rankings, IPN reports.

Spain remains top, followed by Germany and Argentina. Columbia, Belgium and Uruguay went up by one spot each to the fourth, fifth and sixth places respectively.

The best position in the FIFA rankings was taken by Moldova in April 2008, when the national squad was managed by Igor Dobrovolski. It then ranked 37th. However, in May 1994 Moldova, trained by Ion Caras, slipped to the 149th position.

Ion Caras may also manage Moldova in the 2016 European Championship preliminaries. The president of the Moldovan Football Federation Pavel Cebanu made it clear that the contract with Ion Caras will be extended in winter.

The national team will probably play the next match against Lithuania in Chisinau on November 18. It will be a friendly match.
