The public discussions on the National Development Plan (NDP) draft for the years 2008-2011 have been launched and will be held until the end of July in all the regions of Moldova. The Decision on the NDP draft was adopted by the Government in late 2006, with a view to ensuring the continuity of the reforms started under the Economic Growth and Poverty Reduction Strategy (EGPRS) Paper and the Moldova-European Union Action Plan. The Government proposes this time a narrower list of priorities, but which are expected to have a maximal impact upon the country’s economic and social development: consolidation of a democratic, modern and rule-of-law-type of state; solving the Transnistrian conflict and country’s reintegration; enhancing competitiveness of national economy; human resources development; regional development. Those who are interested but not able to take part in the public debates in person are invited to send their opinions and suggestions either at sugestii@mec.gov.md, or by mail to the Ministry of Trade and Economy, with the subject “Suggestions for NDP”. Taking into account these suggestions, the Government will establish the priorities for NDP and will propose an action plan to accomplish these priorities. On July 6, Chisinau hosted the first round of debates on NDP, themed “Enhancing Quality and Access to Education”. Chisinau will host other rounds of discussions on 9, 10, 16, 24 and 25 July. Public debates outside Chisinau will be held in the district Councils. On July 11, the debates will be held in Floresti, on July 12 in Soldanesti, on July 13 in Rezina, on July 18 in Comrat and Ungheni, on July 19 in Cahul, on July 20 - Balti, July 23 - Causeni, July 26 – Nisporeni, and on July 30 – in Criuleni.
