Moldova’s Mail launches first Moldovan-Ukrainian stamps issue

The state-owned “Posta Moldovei” Enterprise (Moldova’s Mail Service) printed and put into circulation a set of Moldovan-Ukrainian stamps issue – the first collaboration of such kind in the history of Moldova’s mail service. The series of stamps named: “Fauna protejata a raului Nistru. Peşti.” (“Protected Fauna of the Nistru River. Fish.”) is distributed as a printed paper sheet containing 15 components (10 stamps and 5 vignettes). The issue contains 100 thousand pieces. The stamps priced 1 leu portray sturgeons- a subspecies of the Russian sturgeon, a species at risk of becoming extinct. The stamps priced 3 lei represent the linnet species, an endemic vulnerable species, which also risks becoming extinct. The vignette represents the Nistru River, with areas from both Moldova and Ukraine, on the superior and inferior side of the river, as well as the areas where these species are commonly found. According to the Deputy Administrator of “Posta Moldovei”, Ludmila Corceac, the plan for 2008 is to issue a series of stamps in cooperation with the Mail Administration of Kazakhstan, with the topic: “Fauna. Cerbi” (“Fauna. Deers”) Starting on June 23, 1991, when Chisinau launched the first set of national stamps and until present days “Posta Moldovei” printed and distributed 623 issues of stamps, which depict national and international events of great importance, remarkable personalities, religious institutions, flora, fauna, etc.
