Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin on Monday, March 9, convened a meeting on the financial and economic situation and the measures taken to maintain financial stability. It was observed at the meeting that “despite a difficult economic climate in the region, since the beginning of the year Moldova has seen an upward trend of the macroeconomic indicators”, the presidential service reported. “The economic, financial and monetary stability, thanks to a well-thought and comprehensive policy conducted by the authorities, allows the government to fulfill, unconditionally, its obligations with respect to the payment of salaries, pensions, benefits, stipends”, the presidential service said in a statement. Earlier, a number of economic experts have warned that Moldova's economy is already affected by the global slowdown. Several political parties criticized the inactivity of the Government and proposed measures to mitigate its effects.
