Ion Dosca of Chisinau, Grand International Master at Draughts, took today the second place at the Brazilian draughts competition, part of the First World Mindsports Games. Moldova's Elena Miskova also came second in the women's Russian draughts contest, Info-Prim Neo reports.
In the final round, Dosca drew Russia's Oleg Dashkov, but was eventually defeated in two out of three barrage matches that followed. Dosca's defeat today contrasted with his successful stride through the preliminary seven rounds where he gained 91 points out of 91 possible.
In the finals of the women's 8x8 Russian checkers, current world vice-champion Elena Miskova lost to world's titleholder Viktoria Motrichko of Ukraine.
The First World Mindsports Games, taking place during October 3-18 in Beijing, has brought together over 300 draughtsmen from 60 countries and over 2,000 other players of diverse mind sports like chess, bridge, go, and Chinese checkers. Draughts players ate competing in four different versions of the game: international 10x10's, Brazilian 8x8's, Russian 8x8's, and Anglo-American 8x8's.
