The National Flag Day on April 27 was celebrated in all the military garrisons by events that involved representatives of the central and local authorities, veterans and students. In the presence of President Igor Dodon, National Army chiefs and members of the General Staff of the Ministry of Defense, the state flag was blessed and hoisted amid a parade of the Guard of Honor, IPN reports.

Ceremonies to honor the national flag were held in all the National Army’s military units in Chisinau, Balti, Cahul and Ungheni. Educative activities about the history of the tricolor were staged for conscript soldiers.

At the Center of Military Culture of the Ministry of Defense, there was mounted an exhibition entitled “Standards and flags in national history”. This contains 37 models of historic flags. Most of the exhibits are accurate copies, their originals being kept in museums in Bucharest, Athos, Moscow and other centers of culture of the world.

The National Flag Day was instituted by Parliament on April 23, 2010. The tricolor was designated as national flag on April 27, 1990 by the members of the first legislature.
