It is possible to increase Moldova’s export to Russia by US$100 million and such a move would be beneficial to Moldova, Russian Minister of Agriculture Nicolai Fedorov said while on a visit to Chisinau last week, IPN reports.
Agrifood trade between Moldova and Russia last year rose to US$350 million. Moldova’s exports totaled over US$200 million. “Our consumers seek mainly Moldovan apples, grapes and wine. But the fact that the demands towards the quality of products increase should not be forgotten. Also, production should be diversified,” said the Russian official.
Nicolai Fedorov added that the Moldovan producers are not discriminates according to political or other criteria on the Russian market. The same sanitary norms and requirements are imposed on all the exporters.
Acting Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry of Moldova Vasile Bumacov said that effort is made to make the producers meet the sanitary norms towards the exported products, especially apples. This activity will be continued. The permanent dialogue with the competent Russian authorities plays an important role in stimulating exports of agrifood products from Moldova.
The sides agreed to cooperate in the area of veterinary and phytosanitary control and in drafting a new memorandum on the safety of products of vegetal origin as well as in the field of agrarian science and in supplying Russian agricultural machinery to Moldova, according to the leasing schemes used in Russia.
