The European prospects, the implementation of an internal reform agenda for modernizing Moldova and the energy security were the main subjects discussed during the visit paid by Head of Parliament Igor Corman to Vilnius. The official had meetings with a number of European officials, who promised to support Moldova in its European integration aspirations, IPN reports.
According to a communiqué from the Parliament’s press service, in a meeting with the President of the Lithuanian Republic Dalia Grybauskaitè, Igor Corman and the Moldovan authorities aim to extend the reforms in the justice sector and the internal affairs bodies and to step up the fight against corruption. He refereed to the opportunities provided to Moldova by the Eastern Partnership and to the assistance offered by the EU through the agency of different instruments. For his part, Dalia Grybauskaitè voiced hope that the EaP Summit of this November will be a success for Moldova.
In the meeting with Lithuanian Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius, the officials spoke about sector cooperation between Moldova and the EU, especially in the energy and transport sectors and in using the assistance provided by the EU through different European instruments. The officials also discussed the initiation of common projects, especially aimed at strengthening the commercial exchanges between Moldova and Lithuania.
The meeting with the Foreign Minister of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius centered on the Moldovan-Lithuanian dialogue and the latest developments in the relations between Moldova and the EU. Linas Linkevičius encouraged the authorities to continue the reforms aimed at modernizing the country so as to achieve the final objective – Moldova’s integration into the EU.
Igor Corman, accompanied by a parliamentary delegation consisting of Ion Hadarca and Tudor Deliu, is paying an official visit to Lithuania on August 19 – 21.
